Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has given an update on Joelinton’s injury problems. With both a severely fractured lip and a torn right ear expected to keep him out for the rest of the week ahead of next week’s clash with Manchester United (December 30).

Due to the injury, he had to both stitch up and recover naturally. So it would be best to take a long break and then come back to Old Trafford. 

“There were some players who were physically tired but they quickly regained their energy because of the good results.” Howe said ahead of the game against Ipswich (December 21).

“The important thing is how your body feels. Let’s see everyone again at Friday’s rehearsal so we can see how each person feels.”

“In Joelinton’s case, he’s okay. As you can see, his mouth is bleeding. His ear is torn and he had 3-4 stitches. It’s a pretty serious wound.”

“I had to stop the bleeding from my mouth. So I won’t be ready this weekend. I think it’s a good thing for him because it gives him a chance to recover from the swelling and bruising. I hope to be fit next week.” 

The Brazilian has faced United the second most times in his career, with 12 games. Helping the team win four (D2 L6), providing two assists and, crucially, being the first to pick up five yellow cards.
